IRS Scams / Fraud
Their have been several schemes in recent weeks, in which a citizen receives a phone call from someone posing as an IRS agent / auditor, and makes the following (or very similar)statements: "you paid taxes but you still owe $2000 and if you do not pay right away you will be sent to jail." Suspect states you are instructed to obtain a Green Dot Card and put the owed money on the card then call back 1-888-887-2003 to give them the card number to complete the transaction."
Obviously, this is NOT how the IRS does business. If you receive such a call, or anything similar, contact your local IRS office, Police Department or Sheriff's Department. DO NOT send funds, provide ANY personal information, or ANY financial information if you feel at any way suspicious about such a call.
